Yaskawa Christmas campaign supports “Médecins Sans Frontières”

Help for the helpers – especially in difficult times

For this year's Christmas campaign, we are again supporting the worldwide emergency medical aid organization Médecins Sans Frontières with a sum of 5,000 euros, as in previous years. Birgit Schönharting, project staff member of Médecins Sans Frontières in Germany, accepted a virtual check in an online conference on December 15th.

"Social commitment is enshrined in our corporate vision and is a key pillar of our work," explained Bruno Schnekenburger, CEO of Yaskawa Europe, in this context. "Especially in difficult times, we want to send a signal with this commitment that only solidarity and support will move our world forward."

Emergency aid in crisis areas

With a donation of 5,000 euros, Médecins Sans Frontières can support projects in Brazil, for example, where the organization has been supporting 15 health facilities since May. Among other things, a Covid-19 hospital with 200 beds was built in Rio de Janeiro in cooperation with the authorities. The situation is also particularly difficult in Yemen, where people have been suffering from a devastating war for six years in addition to the pandemic. In Sanaa, for example, Médecins Sans Frontières supports two Covid-19 treatment centers, and in Aden they are active in the al-Gamhuriah hospital.

Having fled from Myanmar to Bangladesh three years ago, around 900,000 Rohingya still live in the world's largest refugee camp. The conditions are catastrophic. 41 percent of the residents are children under the age of eleven. Médecins Sans Frontières provides provides medical aid and drinking water in the camp. The teams also treat Covid-19 patients and educate them on measures to protect themselves from infection. From January to June 2020, they provided more than 224,000 educational sessions on the coronavirus and other health prevention activities.
